O professor Christopher Gaffney realiza palestra sobre o Mundial FIFA 2014, nesta sexta-feira (13/06) às 9h, na Associação dos Correspondentes de Imprensa Estrangeira no Rio de Janeiro. A palestra pretende examinar a trajetória da Copa, seus arranjos institucionais, projetos de infraestrutura, efeitos nos locais, seus custos e aspectos operacionais e seus desdobramentos sociais. Baseado em dados coletados ao longo de cinco anos, Gaffney apresentará uma visão crítica e analítica da Copa. Ele disponibilizará os dados para o uso dos jornalistas. E terá tempo amplo para perguntas e respostas.
Dr. Christopher Gaffney é Professor Visitante no Programa de Pós-Graduação de Arquitetura e Urbanismo na Universidade Federal Fluminense e pesquisador no Observatório das Metrópoles na Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Ele estuda o universo de futebol no Brasil desde 2004 quando deu início as seu livro Templos dos Deuses Terrestres: estádios nas paisagens culturais de Buenos Aires e Rio de Janeiro. É autor do blog Caçando Elefantes Brancos (www.geostadia.com) e seus trabalhos tenham recebido bastante cobertura na mídia nacional e internacional.

This will be an lecture covering the preparations for and impacts of the World Cup in Brazil. The lecturer, Dr. Christopher Gaffney, has been studying the dynamics of the World Cup since 2009 and led a team of researchers that evaluated the World Cup in the 12 host cities. The lecture will examine the trajectory of the World Cup, its institutional arrangements, stadium projects and related infrastructure, costs and operational aspects, and the social consequences of hosting. Gaffney will present a critical and analytical vision of the World Cup, and data collected over five years will be made available to journalists. There will be a question and answer session after the presentation.
Dr. Christopher Gaffney is a Visiting Professor in the Graduate School of Architecture and Urbanism at the Universidade Federal Fluminense and a researcher in the Observatório das Metrópoles at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. He has studied the universe of football in Brazil since 2004 when he began work on his book Temples of the Earthbound Gods: stadiums in the cultural landscapes of Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. He is author of the blog Hunting White Elephants (www.geostadia.com) and his work has been amply cited in the national and international media.
